Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc: Country needs more Viettel |
It was announced by Viettel chairman Nguyen Manh Hung at the working meeting with the Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc on June 26.
This is the second time Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has visited and worked with Viettel, and six months since it was renamed from Military Telecommunications Group into Military Industry and Telecoms Group. The first visit was in 2016 on the occasion of the 10-year anniversary of Viettel's overseas investment operations.
At the working session, major general Hung reported to the PM on Viettel’s development achievements during 30 years of development. Accordingly, Viettel has been continuously breaking out mobile telecom services in global markets and obtained approximately 100 million customers. Besides, Viettel became one of the 15 biggest telecom companies in the world.
Viettel has researched, manufactured, and installed the key components of its telecommunications network infrastructure in Vietnam and international markets to secure information security. These products include terminals, and core network, and the group also render services like 4G base transceiver station (BTS), private branch exchanges, and billing system, among others.
For network operations, Viettel developed the national firewall solution, blocks and screens spams, the 24/7 cybersecurity monitoring system, and Viettel is honoured to take many key tasks assigned by the Communist Party and the state in order to reinforce and protect the information of ministries and agencies.
Hung set the target that by 2020 Viettel will become a global, hi-tech telecom and industry group with the annual growth rate of 10-15 per cent per year.
Viettel proposed obtaining annual revenue of VND350-400 trillion ($15.26-17.44 billion) including pre-tax profit of VND50-55 trillion ($2.18-2.39 billion). Additionally, Viettel aims to become one of the Top 10 global telecom companies.
Speaking at the meeting, the PM lauded the outstanding efforts of Viettel to become the leading telecom company in the country. Viettel is the biggest economic group dealing with national defence, while also acting as a pioneer forming the cybersecurity industry in Vietnam.
