PetroVietnam Fertiliser and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo) is paving the way for  its sister Ca Mau fertiliser plant to churn out urea products early next year.

PVFCCo on March 28 signed an agreement with the plant to allow it to market Ca Mau fertiliser from this month and distribute its products within two years.

The plant has a designed production capacity of 800,000 tonnes per year, equal to the Phu My fertiliser plant. The two factories will meet 80 per cent of domestic urea fertiliser demand.

The Ca Mau project is being developed by PetroVietnam to produce around 800,000 tonnes of urea from 2012 with required investment capital of $900 million. The project has expected annual revenue of $400 million a year and should break-even after 10 years. Its construction started in 2008.
