In this first experimental year, “Olympia for secondary schools” will take place with the participation of representatives from 18 cities and provinces.
They are Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An in the north; Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong in central region; Binh Duong, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Vung Tau in the south.
After the first programme series is launched in 2012, the organising board will review and evaluate to decide whether to continue the programme in the future.
“We hope this programme will set a new study trend among secondary pupils and cultivate it for further generations for “Road to the top of Olympia” available to high school students.
Having operated as a manufacturing company in Vietnam for 15 years, we regard education-oriented programmes like this as LGE Vietnam’s responsibility to the Vietnamese community,” said LG Electronics Vietnam’s general director Ko Tae Yeon.
Through the programme LG Electronics Vietnam awards 72 scholarships for 18 secondary schools which represent 18 participated provinces.
These scholarships are especially for poor families’ students who excel and have rich promise.
“Olympia for secondary schools” will be organised like a game show. In each game show, there are three teams participating in and answering questions relating to academic and social knowledge appropriate to secondary students.
The participants also join sub-programmes relating to soft skills, team spirit and problem solving when facing challenges given by the programme organisers. Three best teams, after passing the provincial and regional rounds, will attend the final national round
LG Electronics Vietnam hopes that “Olympia for secondary schools” will expand countrywide.
Besides that, during the programming time, the organising board will make improvement step-by-step to be making it suitable to students’ characteristics and capacity, which matches the programme’s spirit of being a meaningful and healthy playground.
“Olympia for secondary schools” will start in October 2012 and last until April 2013, before the ending of the school year 2012-2013.
