Nidec’s new Vietnam base to shake market up

Japan’s Nidec Seimitsu Corporation, a subsidiary of Nidec Group and the world largest mobile phone vibration motor manufacturer, will build its first factory in Vietnam.

The $40 million project, covering 39 square metres in Ho Chi Minh City’s Saigon Hi-tech Park, will produce vibration motors for mobile phones with a monthly capacity of 45 million units. Construction will ne implemented from July to December, 2012.

Nidec Seimitsu Corporation (NSTJ), which operates factories in Shenzhen and Dongguan in China, and Batam in Indonesia, said it had discussed constructing a new factory to bolster its production capabilities to meet expanding demand.

“NSTJ has decided to establish its subsidiary and factory in Vietnam based on the country’s abundant human resources and advantageous geographical conditions,” the firm said.

NSTJ’s investment will contribute to enhancing the local supply chain of mobile phone manufacturing industry, where the two leading mobile phone makers Samsung and Nokia have already set up factories.

It is also Nidec Group’s 11th one in Vietnam. Nidec Group, since its establishment of Nidec Tosok (Vietnam) Company in 1997, has been expanding its operations in Vietnam and currently manages nine companies in Ho Chi Minh City and one in Hanoi.

Nidec Group currently has 22,000 employees in Ho Chi Minh City, the workforce larger than any other corporate group ever operating in the city, and expects to increase the number to 25,000 after the launch of the new factory.

With the new addition in Vietnam, each Nidec Group company is poised to expand its business in the country, which is undergoing rapid economic growth, and meet the increasing needs mainly of Asian countries in the future, in order to further increase its market share.
