Nestlé Vietnam gets ministerial award for environmental achievements

Nestle Vietnam has just received the 2014 national green environment certificate awarded by the Vietnam Environment Administration under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the country’s Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment.

The award recognises Nestle Vietnam’s achievements in reducing waste and energy use in its operations, as well as its contributions to raising public awareness of environmental protection.

“Environmental protection is one of Nestle’s values,” said Rashid Qureshi, managing director of Nestle Vietnam, who added that “this certificate is not only a success of Nestle Vietnam, but also of Nestle Global.”

According to Nestle Vietnam, the company has always complied with the government’s regulations on environmental protection as well as strived to minimise environmental impact. In recent years the company has reduced the amount of water used in production by 35 per cent, thus saving 65 million litres of water per year. Its Nescafe Plan project carried out in Central Highland provinces has helped coffee farmers reduce the amount of water they use from 700 litres per tree to 400 litres per tree.

This is not Nestle’s first environment award. Since 2004 the firm has received multiple recognitions from newspapers and government agencies for its achievements in environmental protection.

Nestle Vietnam currently employs 2,000 workers and has three plants in Dong Nai province, two of which are in the Amata Industrial Park and one in the Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park.
