The partners’ commitment of more than VND3.15 billion ($150,000) in 2014 builds on an existing Block B Gas-to-Power Project education programme that has already provided scholarships to more than 3,800 children in the Mekong Delta since 2009.
In addition to awarding a total of 877 scholarships, the 2014 programme also seeks to upgrade five schools in the area. The partners have sponsored upgrades to 19 schools over the past four years.
Chevron Vietnam’s president Barry Andrews said “The Block B Project Partners are committed to improving access to education, a critical element in improving livelihoods and sustaining long-term development in the community. We are proud to support the good work of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children.”
“Chevron, PVEP, MOECO, PTTEPKV, and PTTEP SV are strong supporters of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children, and are committed to having a positive impact in the Mekong Delta community. We are grateful for their support and partnership in helping the NFVC meet our goals of increasing access to education,” said NFVC’s director Hoang Van Tien.
The Block B Gas to Power Project is an offshore development that will supply natural gas to fuel power plants in Ca Mau and Can Tho in the delta region.
The project is comprised of Chevron Vietnam, PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP), Mitsui Oil Exploration (MOECO), PTTEP Kim Long Vietnam (PTTEP KV), and PTTEP Southwest Vietnam (PTTEP SV).
