Today, the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with Microsoft organised a workshop on openness and cloud computing to discuss and recommend surpassing solutions for creating an open, flexible and secure e-government cloud platform.

This is considered a ground-breaking strategy in the development process of e-government in Vietnam.

In line with new trends in global IT, Vietnam understands that cloud computing helps to save state budget, improve IT performance and accelerate innovation of bureaucracy. This is also considered a foundation for Vietnam to continue implementing large systems of e-government on a national scale including database, email system and integrated e-document exchange system.

At the workshop, cloud computing solutions for government sector, referred to as G-Cloud as well as the optimal network security solutions were introduced by Microsoft. Erick Stephens, CTO, APAC and Sangita Jayaraman, Platform Strategy director, APAC led this conversation and talked about Microsoft’s commitment to openness and harmonisation within complex environments through a focus on open cloud support for open source and open standards.

G-Cloud solution will facilitate information exchange between management agencies, and between public service agencies and the citizens. This, consequently, will shorten service time, save costs and make the process be more transparent. At the deployment, in a “government cloud”, ministries and department can interact and share cloud infrastructure to enhance management and administration performance while being secured at the highest level.

“Cost saving is only a part of the cloud computing picture in government sector, the flexibility and agility in responding to opportunities and challenges are the greatest benefits that we expect from the deployment of cloud computing technology. We highly appreciate G-cloud technology from Microsoft and considering this is a foundation to build up an effective e-government system, bringing more benefits from public services to people,” said an official of Information Technology Department under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Breakthroughs in Microsoft open platform solutions will pave the way for the development of modern, powerful and effective cloud data centres. The flexibility, security, as well as high speed of information processing and analysis, and timely report procedures of these solutions will contribute to the decision making process at management levels, build strategic vision for the development of e-government, towards the ultimate goal is to bring greater benefits to citizens in the process of using dynamic and intelligent services.

“At Microsoft, we are making strategic moves towards the future, targeting directly on improving user experiences across multiple platforms. Besides, there are various efforts to build an ICT ecosystem with high level of interaction and collaboration. With Microsoft open cloud platform, we hope to bring a strong move in the implementation process of e-government in Vietnam,” said Vu Minh Tri, general director of Microsoft Vietnam.
