Markets experience a gray day

The bourses ended modestly higher amid fluctuations caused by macroeconomic uncertainties.

The VN-Index of Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) gained 2.05 points or 0.56 per cent to 367.7 points. Advancers and decliners ran nearly even 109 to 113, respectively on the main bourse.

The market fluctuated recently with the VN-Index ending up on Monday and down on Tuesday.

“The market has fluctuated with the generally downward trends, helped by some negative news like power price hike, higher-than-expected CPI of Long An province,” said Vietcombank Securities.

Blue-chip and major stocks continued to lead the market, among them Vincom Corp. (VIC) hitting the ceiling and significantly animating the bourse. The real estate stock saw a big volume of 6.5 million shares worth VND633 billion ($30.6 million) negotiated.

Also, Masan Group (MSN) significantly advanced. Several highly -liquid real estate stocks strongly jumped, among them Song Da Urban & Industrial Zone Investment and Development (SJS), Binh Duong Trade and Development (TDC), Khang Dien House Trading and Investment (KDH).

Financial shares like Saigon Securities, Sacombank (STB), Eximbank (EIB), Military Bank (MBB) modestly added.

Real estate firm Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG) and the major bank Vietinbank (CTG) both ended off. Vinamilk (VNM) and Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) ended flat.

Notably, put-through volume rocketed up to 23.9 million shares worth VND892 billion ($43.1 million), led by VIC and Sacombank (STB). STB saw up to 13.5 million shares worth VND200 billion ($9.7 million) today. The bank has just announced a cooperation deal with Credit Suisse (Singapore).

Overall, total volume reached 47.2 million shares worth VND1.24 trillion ($59.9 million). The Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) climbed 0.46 points or 0.78 per cent to close at 59.79 points. Decliners and advancers also ran nearly even 104 to 108, among them most active stocks ended modestly higher.

Total volume kept modest at 24.1 million shares worth VND209.6 billion ($10.1 million). Put-through volume was also quite high at 5.6 million shares worth VND62.1 billion ($3 million).
