Advancers sharply increased to 180 stocks, mainly small- and mid-cap stocks. Among them, 73 stocks hit the ceiling on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE). Just 50 stocks ended off.
Real estate stocks led the most rallying stocks, with BECAMEX Infrastructure Development (IJC), Investment and Trading of Real Estate (ITC), Post and Telecommunications Investment and Construction (PTC), Binh Duong Trade and Development (TDC) sharply gained.
Major real estate stock Ocean Group (OGC) hit the ceiling and outperformed the market with 1.5 million shares matched. Kinhbac City Development Share Holding Corp. (KBC) and Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG) hit the ceiling as well.
Among financial shares, Vietcombank (VCB) and PetroVietnam Finance (PVF) hit the ceiling. Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) and Vietinbank (CTG) modestly gained, Eximbank (EIB) ended slightly higher while Sacombank (STB) was unchanged.
Whereas, the pillar stock Masan Group (MSN) hit the floor and a number of blue-chip stocks like Vincom Corp. (VIC) and Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) declined and dragged back the market’s rising momentum. At the close, the benchmark VN-Index gained just 1.55 points or 0.43 per cent to close at 366.03 points.
Put-through volume suddenly rocketed to 33.5 million shares worth VND452.82 billion ($21.9 million), led by SSI having 10.6 million shares negotiated, Sacombank Securities (SBS) 9.6 million shares, STB 5 million shares, while Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG) having more than one million shares negotiated.
Matching volume also significantly increased, pushing up total volume to 65.3 million shares worth VND972.2 billion ($46.9 million). Foreign investors also boosted their trading, mainly buying ITC, VIC, PVF, ITA, VCB, HAG.
Hanoi Stock Exchange’s HNX-Index added 0.93 points or 1.58 per cent to 59.83 points, after up to 188 stocks advanced and 63 declined.
Real estate major stocks PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) and Vietnam Construction and Import - Export (VCG) hit the ceiling with 1.7 million shares and 900,000 million shares matched respectively. Other major stocks meanwhile saw just modest gains.
Volumes of major stocks did not significantly increase on the northern bourse. However, liquidity still jumped to 29.7 million shares worth VND254.6 billion ($12.3 million).
