Malaysian becomes BASF Vietnam head

International leading chemical company BASF has appointed Malaysian Petrus Ng as its new managing director of BASF Vietnam, effective on February 1.

He succeeds Jirawat Thongbai, who will take over the position of director, Care Chemicals, at BASF in Thailand.

Ng started his career with BASF in 1990 and has held several key management positions in Malaysia and Singapore. He currently is responsible for strategy and projects for the Care Chemicals business in Asia-Pacific, based in Hong Kong.

Ng holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Malaya, Malaysia.

BASF has been active in Vietnam since the establishment of its representative office in 1994, and BASF Vietnam was set up in 2009. Its head office and production site for construction chemicals is located at the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park in southern Binh Duong province. The company has three sales offices, in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Danang.  BASF employed about 150 people in Vietnam as of the end of 2011.
