Talented students are given a helping hand to the next level through Lotte Scholarship Foundation’s initiative |
The Lotte Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to supporting students who do not lose their passion despite difficult circumstances and promoting global talent development, not only in South Korea but also around the world. To achieve this, the foundation has continuously provided scholarships in four countries since 2008, starting with Vietnam.
At the ceremony, deputy consul general of South Korea in Ho Chi Minh City, Kwon Sun Chil, appreciated the foundation for its contribution to strengthening the friendship between Vietnam and South Korea, as well as the efforts to create an ideal education environment from Lotte Group. “Over the past 30 years, the two countries have made numerous important achievements. South Korea is a bright spot in the overall picture of the two countries’ bilateral cooperation, being one of the most important partners of Vietnam as it ranks top in terms of direct investment, official development assistance, and labour, tourism, and trade cooperation,” Chil said.
The decision to upgrade the two countries’ relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership last December is of great significance, Chil added, opening a new chapter for the development of the two countries in the next 30 years.
In Vietnam, the foundation has provided cumulative scholarship payments of KRW 1.29 billion (approximately $1.1 million) to 3,170 students to support their growth. It has also held many activities for the Vietnamese community; besides presenting awarding scholarships to students who are in difficult circumstances yet achieve good academic results, it has helped build libraries and schools for children living in remote areas in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking at the scholarship award ceremony, Chun Yung Woo, chairman of the Lotte Scholarship Foundation, noted that South Korea and Vietnam have many similarities and interests in culture, history, and education.
“However, the most important thing is to focus on promoting and enriching human resources. The Lotte Scholarship Foundation is proud to contribute an important part to helping excellent students in Vietnam achieve their dreams and become talented people. Especially, from this year the foundation also offers educational welfare support projects for excellent Vietnamese students to study in South Korea.”
Through these activities, Lotte Group wishes to support young talent in Vietnam and thus contribute to the development of the country in the long run.”
At the scholarship ceremony, Lotte Hotel Saigon’s CEO Seo Dong-soo congratulated the outstanding recipients.
“I hope all the students here will become talents of the country and always be proud of their country, and especially I hope that they will be companions of Lotte Group,” said Dong-soo.
Furthermore, Lotte Group has introduced a new corporate identity that visualises its vision of being a “lifetime value creator” for the group’s next five decades of sustainable development.
