Vietnam’s largest hydro power plant officially launched its last turbine on the afternoon of Sept. 26, marking the on time fulfillment of the work in 2012, according to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).

The plant, located in the mountainous province of Son La, put its first turbine into operation in December 2010 and the fifth one in April this year. To date, its five turbines have generated over 10 billion kWh of electricity for the national grid.

Construction of the VND37 trillion ($1.8 billion) power plant began in December 2005. When fully operational, the 2,400MW plant will be able to supply 10.2 billion kWh of electricity a year.

The inauguration of the work is expected to be held in December this year.
