In the explosion two Vietnamese workers lost their lives immediately, according to newswire Vnexpress. The two victims were identified as Vy Van Nguyet (27) and Dang Thanh Thai (22).

According to witnesses, at 7.00 AM, the workers noticed unusually high temperatures inside the kiln. While workers went to report the hazard to the management, Nguyet and Thai stayed behind to keep the burning coal in check with a five-metre iron stick. The kiln exploded and the two victims were thrown dozens of metres by the blast.

Besides the fatal casualties, numerous short iron sticks were thrown in a radius of hundreds of metres and pierced the roofs of neighbouring residential estates.

The authorities are investigating the causes of the explosion.
