Japan's Tokyu Group has proposed a feasibility study for a light rail transit in Thu Dau Mot city, Binh Duong province.

The information was shared at a meeting with Bui Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of Binh Duong People's Committee, and Hirohisa Fujiwara, international business director of Tokyu Group.

Fujiwara highlighted the success of Becamex Tokyu, a joint venture between Tokyu Group and Becamex IDC Corporation, thanks to the support of local authorities. Tokyu Group will continue to cooperate and share its 100-year experience of urban development to help Binh Duong become a green, smart, and liveable city.

"We hope that the province will create conditions for Becamex Tokyu to conduct a feasibility study for a light rail transit in Thu Dau Mot city," he added.

In response, Tri stressed, "Public transport, especially a light rail transit, is one of the key focus areas for Binh Duong. The locality is taking steps to complete its transport network for residents in urban areas. The light rail transit is expected to create a breakthrough in the development of transport infrastructure in Thu Dau Mot city."

Tri lauded the partnership and achievements between Tokyu Group and Becamex IDC, which have made a positive contribution to Binh Duong's growth.

"Becamex Tokyu has invested in commerce, urban development, and transport infrastructure. Hopefully, Tokyu Group and Becamex Tokyu will accompany the province to bolster expansions across many fields and projects in the near future," he said.

In addition, Binh Duong is researching its first metro line, connecting Thu Dau Mot city to Suoi Tien Station on Ho Chi Minh City's Metro Line 1. Spanning 32.4km, the line includes 29.01km of main line and 3.42km of depot connections.

Binh Duong's metro line will mainly feature double tracks with a standard gauge of 1.435m and a maximum speed of 120km per hour. Total investment for the project is estimated at $2.52 billion. Under the plan, the line is expected to start construction in 2027 and be completed in 2031.
