The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) and Tamada Industries, Inc. on July 26th in Hanoi signed the Minutes of Meeting (M/M) on the “Pilot Survey for Disseminating Small And Medium Enterprises Technologies for SF Double Wall Tank for Avoiding Leakage of Hazardous Objects” in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Ministry of Public Security.

This project is funded by JICA from July, 2013 to December, 2014 and aims to raise environmental awareness and disaster concerns of Vietnamese officials at gas stations by introducing the technology of Tamada Industries, Inc. on the SF double wall tank.

Main activities are inspection of existing tanks for its leakage situation at gas stations in Vietnam, providing technical advice to related officials through receiving trainees in Japan, technical transfer for manufacturing SF Double wall tanks, and awareness campaign.

“Leakage of fuel at gas stations may directly result in economic losses; however this technology is also to protect the environment in future from soil or water pollution caused by the leakage as well as to reduce the future risk of health hazard which might be affected by carcinogen contamination to underground water. Especially in rapidly growing society like Vietnam, those issues become more and more serious due to the rapid motorization”, said Mr. Mori Mutsuya, JICA Vietnam Chief Representative.

This project is conducted under the new JICA’s scheme of “Pilot Survey for Dissemination Small and Medium-sized Enterprises’ Technologies”, expecting to contribute for developing countries utilizing Japanese technologies.
