About 1,100 employees and all the Board of Directors’ members worked together to clean up streets, collect garbage, plant trees in the surrounding and resident areas of the two factories. A number of neighbouring inhabitants also joined and accompanied with this meaningful activity.
This activity is part of the global Smile Earth! programme initiated by the Ajinomoto Group (Japan) in 2007 and implemented through affiliates of Ajinomoto Group worldwide. In 2013, this simultaneous global clean-up activity has called upon the action for the good of earth of around 30,000 Ajinomoto Group employees at 186 business sites in 15 countries and regions.
The Smile Earth! programme of Ajinomoto Group encompasses activities with three themes: “Clean up” which includes these simultaneous global clean-up activities; “Mottainai (What a waste!) & Eco” which includes the “Eat Well ECO” campaign and the donation of collected unused goods; and “Diverse Actions” which includes a human rights slogan contest.
Along with creating better lives by contributing to significant advances in food and health and by working for life as stated in the Ajinomoto Group philosophy, the aim of Smile Earth! programme is to enhance perception towards environment protection and social responsibility of both individual and community by putting thoughts and ideas into real action.
