The partners of professional services firm Deloitte Southeast Asia have made a significant contribution to local charity as part of their annual regional conference held in Ho Chi Minh City from October 7-12, 2013.

A total of $30,000 was raised for Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund at the Deloitte Southeast Asia Partners Conference 2013, which was hosted by Deloitte Vietnam Company Limited.

CEO of Deloitte Southeast Asia Chaly Mah presented the cheque to Vu A Dinh Fund president and Former Vice President of Vietnam Truong My Hoa at a special welcome reception on October 10, 2013.

“We believe that the success of an organisation is not solely reflected in its financial performance, but also lies in how an organisation runs its business and the positive impact it makes in the communities it operates in. I hope that this donation will help Vu A Dinh foundation in their efforts in alleviating poverty and improving the health and education facilities for ethnic minorities in Vietnam,” said Mah.

“I highly appreciate this meaningful initiative of Deloitte. On behalf of the students and the Board of Management of the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund, I would like to thank Deloitte Partners for their generous donation and their support for Vietnam. This donation will help poorr and disadvantaged ethnic minority students to continue schooling and contribute to society,” says Hoa.

The funds were raised from a combination of donations from partners, the sale of Vietnamese traditional souvenirs and a charity auction of special items including one-of-a-kind Vietnamese art pieces by renowned artists; exclusive collector items such as a framed football jersey signed by Lionel Messi; and a limited edition bronze bell with the phrase ‘peace to the world’ engraved on it.

This bell was modeled after the huge bronze bell that was cast for the 1,000th founding anniversary of Thang Long, the old name of Hanoi and was a special donation by the CEO of Deloitte Vietnam, Ha Thu Thanh.

She was one of the 1,000 outstanding entrepreneurs awarded with the bell on the occasion of the Thang Long – Hanoi Millennium Celebration.

“I am very honoured to have received the bell and I hope that by donating the bell to this auction, it will bring peace to the winning bidder and happiness to the disadvantaged students of the Vu A Dinh foundation. Contributing to the development of society and education through Corporate Social Responsibility activities and fund raising, like this programme, is always a priority for Deloitte Vietnam,” says Thanh.

The Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund is committed to support ethnic minority students in poor and remote areas in their education and to develop human resources for young people in ethnic-minority regions.

Since the fund was first established in 1999, it has provided 30,000 scholarships together with its sponsors and built many schools for ethnic students.

Deloitte Vietnam also recently announced the launch of the 'Lighting Up Your Future' scholarship fund set up together with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Vietnam.

The fund is set up for undergraduates studying business, economics, finance, banking, accounting and auditing, and is targeted at students who may experience financial difficulties while in university.

Each scholarship is valued at VND20 million ($9,500 in the form of cash and training courses) and is available to applicants who meet the eligibility criteria.
