Danang makes global connection with festival

The month-long event, sponsored by Sun Group, is taking place at the fireworks stage on the Han River, with the participation of eight fireworks teams, including seven international teams (France, Italy, the United States, Germany, Poland, China, and Finland) and the host team from Danang. Germany, China, and the US are all newcomers to the event.

The opening night took place on the evening of June 8, with the opening competition between the Vietnamese team and the reigning DIFF 2023 champions, France. The festival opened a series of five fireworks nights, providing a vibrant artistic atmosphere in the coastal city, highlighting the friendship and solidarity between nations around the world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of Danang People’s Committee said, “We wish to send a message about the connection between nations and the harmony between people, helping to create a peaceful, civil and prosperous world.”

Danang not only has an attractive location and natural landscape, but is also aiming for professionalism, creativity, and determination to maintain its warm and hospitable cultural identity. Those are the values that Danang has been building, preserving, and nurturing, Chinh added.

On June 15, Italy competed with the US, and on June 22, Germany will show off its talent with the Poland, while China and Finland will take over the night of June 29 with a fairytale theme.

On the final night on July 13, there will be memorable performances by all teams, with each putting on a 20-minute show.

This year, the champions will receive a trophy, a certificate, and a gift worth $20,000. The runners-up will be awarded a trophy and a certificate as well as a gift worth $10,000.

As in previous years, there will be an award voted by the audience with a prize of $5,000, as well as a trophy and a certificate.

A series of events accompanying DIFF 2024 will also be organised on a large scale, with rich and attractive content, from exhibitions to art and cultural performances, spread across the city.

A series of renowned tourist and entertainment venues in the city, such as Sun World Ba Na Hills and Asia Park, will be hosting festivals, music and art performances, as well as entertainment throughout the firework season.

To open this year’s fireworks season, Danang will pamper visitors with a special “Jetski & Flyboards” adventure sports show performed by Australian manufacturer H2O, which promises to be a highlight of the festival.

The return of the festival marks an important step towards putting the coastal city on the international tourist map. DIFF 2024 is expected to pull in tourists from all over the world, contributing to making the city “Asia’s leading event and festival destination”, as twice honoured at the World Travel Awards.

Huynh Nam Thang, deputy general director of Sun Group for the central region, said that after 11 previous editions, the festival had become a top brand in Danang. For that reason, Sun Group was determined to be a sponsor again, despite the difficult economic context.

“We wish to accompany DIFF to contribute to enhancing the brand of Danang. Sun Group is keenly aware of the responsibility and pioneering role of the business, linking its development journey with the development of the coastal city,” Thang said.

For more than a decade, Danang has been known as the “fireworks capital of Vietnam.” With the innovations of DIFF 2024, it is hoped tourists will return to the central city every year, becoming an annual pick for domestic and foreign visitors.

“We believe that DIFF 2024 will create a new milestone in Danang tourism, breaking records in terms of the number of visitors, and at the same time becoming a source of pride for the locals and Vietnamese people,” Thang added.
