Building on the success of the 2024 Taste of Australia’s Big BBQ, the Australian Embassy in Hanoi is hopeful of strengthening ties with Vietnam to promote Australian produce while fostering goodwill and understanding between the two nations.

The Australian Embassy hosted the highly anticipated Taste of Australia’s Big BBQ at the historic Imperial Citadel of Thang Long on October 17, celebrating Australia’s renowned cuisine, beverages, and cultural ties between Australia and Vietnam.

This year’s event carried deeper significance than previous editions, marking the evolving relationship between the two countries. With Australia and Vietnam recently elevating their diplomatic ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), the Big BBQ symbolised the growing friendship and shared aspirations of both nations.

The gathering served as a metaphorical bridge between Australia and Vietnam. Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski likened the connection between the two countries to the imagery of Hanoi’s Long Bien Bridge – a symbol of resilience and history – extending towards Australia’s iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, representing innovation and vitality.

The relaxed atmosphere delighted guests with an array of authentic Australian barbecue dishes, meticulously crafted by chef Tommy Pham and the culinary team from Daewoo Hotel Hanoi. The flavourful offerings were accompanied by premium Australian wines, showcasing over 20 renowned wineries.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Goledzinowski emphasised the importance of shared culinary traditions in building cultural ties. "The Big BBQ is not just about food; it’s about strengthening the connections between our two countries. Events like this bring people together, reflecting the hospitality that both nations cherish. And for those who want more, Australian products are readily available in Hanoi’s restaurants and supermarkets, or waiting to be enjoyed when you visit Australia," said the ambassador.

Chef Tommy Pham, known for his innovative approach to traditional Vietnamese cooking, added, "I’m thrilled to showcase Australia’s vibrant BBQ culture. This event reflects not just our food, but also the spirit of community and sharing that defines Australian culture. I’m grateful I have the chance to bring a taste of Australia to Hanoi."

The event served as a culinary showcase and a celebration of the growing partnership between the two countries. As Australia and Vietnam embark on this new chapter in their relationship through the CSP, events like these highlight the shared journey and mutual goals of both nations.
