In response to the World Environment Day 2013, Standard Chartered Bank (Vietnam) organised a bicycle ride in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on June 8, 2013, to promote Go Green spirit among its staff as well as in the society.

The cycling was taken part in by nearly 300 bank employees from both cities, who cycled around West Lake in Hanoi and Phu My Hung residential area in Ho Chi Minh City. The activity follows the bank’s commitment to protect the environment and create a positive impact on the societies where it operates.

Louis Taylor, general director of Standard Chartered Bank (Vietnam) Ltd., said: “We are delighted to receive such a great response from our staff for the cycling toward improving environment in the two biggest cities of Vietnam. Through our brand promise - “Here for good” – Standard Chartered commits to making continuous efforts to protect the environment and creating a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work. It is an honour for us to be a part of the change for a better living environment, here in Vietnam”.

The cycling is among many of Standard Chartered Bank (Vietnam) action-oriented activities to raise awareness of the need for a green living environment. Last year, the bank sponsored $21,000 and called for 300 staff volunteers planting over 5,000 trees in Ba Vi National Park and Can Gio Biosphere Reserve in order to response to the World Environment Day. It is now running the global campaign “Green Your Flights”, which is designed to offset the carbon emissions generated by business air travel through initiatives such as tree planting.
