A $15 million private hospital in Cambodia’s Phnom Penh partnered with Ho Chi Minh City’s Cho Ray Hospital has announced it will officially open its doors in January.

The Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital will be inaugurated on January 13, 2014 as a joint venture between Vietnamese company Saigon Medical Investment and Cambodian multi-business group Sokimex, read the Phnom Penh City Hall website.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung would preside over the inauguration, wrote a statement from the site.

The new hospital along National Highway 1 in Meanchey district initially planned to open in late November.

It will operate as a sister facility of its Ho Chi Minh City partner but will employ only Cambodian doctors and nurses who will receive eight months of training in the southern hub, the website continued.

A group of 14 Vietnamese doctors are planned to go to Cambodia around mid-November to inspect medical equipment at the new facility.

The Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital is one of main achievements accomplished by an agreement between the prime ministers of the two countries on cooperation between the Cambodian capital and Ho Chi Minh City. Work started in May 2010 and houses 500 beds after two development stages.

Thousands of Cambodian patients come to Vietnam for medical treatment every year. They can be seen abundantly at leading hospitals such as Cho Ray, FV, and Medical University Hospital.
