Auto sales hit over 16,000 units in September

Vietnam's automobile industry sold nearly 16,150 units in September, up 29% against August and 65% on the same month of last year, according to Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA).

Of the figure, 10,511 were cars and 5,638 were trucks, up 30% and 25% against last month. Of these automobiles, 11,232 were domestically-assembled, and 4,917 were imported, or 16%, and 73% month-on-month respectively.

This is the 18th consecutive month that turnover from cars has reported a year-on-year increase.

According to VAMA’s statistics, Truong Hai Auto Corporation (Thaco) maintained its strong grip in the first position. Thaco sold 4,195 units last month, up 69% compared to the same period last year and accounting for 32.5% of VAMA’s market share.

Toyota Vietnam’s sales hit around 3,747 units, ranking the second, and the figure of Ford Vietnam was estimated at 1,390 units, accounting for 10.7% of the country’s market share.

Since its launch in Vietnam nine months ago, Lexus sold 232 vehicles, including 31 units in September only.

Other brands also posting high sales in September was Honda with 769 units, and General Motor Vietnam with 445 units.

More than 106,710 units were sold in the first nine month of this year, a 39% increase from a year earlier. The number of cars was estimated at 67.930 (up 40%), while that of truck reached 38,780 (up 36%).

With the high consumption rate, 2014 automobile sales are expected to reach 130,000 units, up 18% year on year.
