CapitaLand’s wholly-owned serviced residence business unit, The Ascott Limited (Ascott), participated in Earth Hour 2011 to help spread the message against climate change.

Façade lights and non-essential lighting at five Somerset-branded serviced residences in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City – Somerset Grand Hanoi, Somerset Hoa Binh, Somerset West Lake, Somerset Chancellor Court and Somerset Ho Chi Minh City – were turned off beyond the hour for 10 hours, from 8.30pm on 26 March 2011 to 6.30am on 27 March 2011.

The serviced residences also raised awareness on the need to protect the environment by encouraging residents and tenants to switch off their lights during Earth Hour.

At Somerset Chancellor Court and Somerset Ho Chi Minh City, events were held to commemorate the occasion and to promote the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – amongst residents.

The event is one of several environment protection activities organised by Ascott’s Somerset serviced residences in Vietnam.

Other efforts included several Green Campaigns to plant trees in Soc Trang and Ba Ria Vung Tau provinces and Ba Vi National Park, cleaning the water system in Tan Hung A Primary School in Soc Trang province and CapitaLand Nang Yen Primary Hope School in Phu Tho province, providing tenants and residents with energy saving tips, organising an environmental awareness programme for staff.

Richard Tan, Ascott’s country general manager for Vietnam, said:  “This is the fourth consecutive year that we are supporting this global sustainability movement. Through the activities, we hope to encourage our residents and staff to adopt sustainable practices into their everyday lives. Every little effort counts and together, we can build a greener future where we live in harmony with nature.”
