Vietnamese Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang today held a working session with Airbus CEO Fabrice Bregier who was on his first visit to Vietnam.

Thang spoke highly of Airbus’ contributions to helping modernise Vietnam’s carriers by improving both the quality and numbers of their fleets over the past two decades. 71 Airbus aircraft are in commercial use by local airlines, 70 per cent of the total.

The relationship was further strengthened by the signing of a contract between Airbus and Vientam’s youngest carrier VietJetAir wherein the former will supply 100 aircraft to the latter over the next several decades. The contract signing occurred during a visit to France by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. VietJetAir has reportedly already transferred the first payment.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will be the second global airline to use all-new A350 jetliners as per an upcoming transfer from Airbus.
