ACE Life Insurance Company Limited (“ACE Life Vietnam”), part of the ACE Group, has inagurated a new classroom building of Quang Thanh No.2 Primary School, the reconstruction of which was funded by ACE Life with VND2.2 billion (about $105,000) through the Central Region Natural Disaster Prevention and Support Fund.

Located in Quang Dien Commune, Quang Dien District, Thua Thien Hue Province, the construction commenced in March and has been completed before the new school year begins.

Quang Dien Commune is one of the most depressed areas of Thua Thien Hue province since it is affected by flooding annually. The old Quang Thanh No.2 Primary School, constructed in 2004, suffered degradation and its rooms and facilities were inadequate to meet students’ learning needs. With ACE Life Vietnam’s financial support, the brand new two-story building with eight classrooms, now offers 300 local students a safe learning environment. In addition, it can also serve as shelter for local residents in the event of flooding.

The new building structure was selected by the Central Region Natural Disaster Prevention and Support Fund for its stable foundation that will be able to withstand the flood and monsoon seasons.

Lam Hai Tuan, chairman and country president of ACE Life Vietnam, said: “The ‘Crossing Waves Fund’ was established in 2005 to provide educational support to the community. We believe that our investment in educational support is our way of giving back to the communities especially in creating more chances for underprivileged youth to achieve success later in life. We will continue to contribute towards the betterment of learning conditions and facilities for children in impoverished areas in Vietnam.”

Quang Thanh No.2 Primary School is the fourth school building project in four years funded by ACE Life Vietnam’s philanthropic program, the “Crossing Waves Fund”. The company also sponsored the rebuilding of Xuan Lam Primary School in Phu Yen province, Trieu Do Primary School in Quang Tri province and Cat Chanh Primary School in Binh Dinh province. Apart from the four school building projects in impoverished provinces, this programme has also sponsored over 1,200 scholarships for underprivileged university students. To date, the “Crossing Waves Fund” has contributed over VND10 billion (over $500,000) to school building projects and scholarships.
