The project got ACE Life Vietnam’s financial support through the Central Region Natural Disaster Prevention and Support Fund.
Construction of the school kicked-off in March this year and ACE Life contributed VND2.2 billion ($105,000) towards the reconstruction of the school which had been severely damaged by floods and demolished in 2011 for safety reasons.
The new school building consists of two storeys with eight classrooms offering 350 local pupils a safe environment for learning. In addition, it can provide shelter for local residents in the event of flooding.
“Our effort to support education is our way of giving back to the community in which we live and work. We will continue to contribute towards the betterment of learning conditions and facilities for children in impoverished areas in Vietnam so that they have access to quality education,” said ACE Life Vietnam’s country president Lam Hai Tuan
Cat Chanh Primary School is the third school building project in three years funded by ACE Life Vietnam’s philanthropic programme, the “Crossing Waves Fund”.
In 2010, the company also sponsored the rebuilding of Xuan Lam Primary School in Phu Yen province and Trieu Do Primary School in Quang Tri Province last year.
The “Crossing Waves Fund” was established in 2005 to provide educational support to the community and is fully funded by donations from ACE Life Vietnam.
Apart from the three school building projects in impoverished provinces, this programme has sponsored 1,200 scholarships to underprivileged university students.
To date, the “Crossing Waves Fund” has contributed approximately VND9 billion ($432,000) to the school building projects and scholarships.
