Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange’s (HoSE) VN-Index was up 2.65 points, or 0.55 per cent, to 481.4 points, buoyed the three Masan Group (MSN, +2,82 per cent), Vincom JSC (VIC, +2.13 per cent) and Bao Viet Holding (BVH, +1,52 per cent), which helped the benchmark up 2.35 points.
Those three stocks’ trading volumes were very modest, at 132,700 shares for BVH, 103,890 for VIC and 2,410 for MSN. Meanwhile, up to 90 per cent of BVH shares traded today were by foreigners.
The VN-Index was off just 1.65 points, compared to 4.6 points the advancers added to the index.
PetroVietnam Finance (PVF, +2,13 per cent), Vinpearl JSC (VPL, +2.44 per cent) and KinhBac City (KBC, +1.52 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Meanwhile, FPT Corp. (FPT, -1,55per cent led the decliners, followed by Saigon Securities (SSI, -1.25 per cent) and Sacombank (STB, -0,62 per cent).
The financial sector was the best performer, up 1.76 points, along with the construction, building materials and real estate sector climbed 0.92 points, while the remainder moved little.
Volumes fell 8.5 per cent to 57.07 million shares, worth VND1.48 trillion ($74 million), up 0.48 per cent.
At the close, 88 stocks advanced with seven hitting the ceiling, 121 gave back with eight hit the floor and 71 were unchanged on the HoSE.
On the Hanoi bourse, HNX-Index finished at 112.64 points, down 0.29 points or 0.26 per cent. The liquidity also gave back with 41 million shares worth VND833.4 billion changing hands, down 19.17 per cent and 27.63 per cent respectively.
Just 99 stocks climbed while 209 fell, 28 ended flat and 30 had no transaction. Among them 10 codes hit ceiling and six hit the floor.
TifoPlast (NTP) gained 4.35 per cent and Ocean JSC (OCH) advanced 0.42 per cent.
Meanwhile, Asian Bank (ACB, -0,40 per cent), Habubank (HBB, -1,69 per cent) along with Kim Long Securities (KLS, -2,42 per cent) and Bao Viet Securities (BVS, -2,73per cent) were down.
The major stocks PetroVietnam Services (PVS, -0,95 per cent), PetroVietnam Insurance (PVI, -1,64 per cent) and Sacomreal SCR (-1,90 per cent) fell as well.
Foreigners bought 71 stocks, accounting for 4.77 million shares on HoSE today, focusing on DPM, REE, PVD, CTG and HAG.
On the HNX they bought 571,000 shares of 25 codes while selling 144,000 shares of 17 codes, of which PVS, PVX, PHS, SHB, KLS were bought most.
