Viettel slashes roaming charges

The leading mobile operator in Vietnam, Viettel has sharply dropped roaming charges by 60 per cent from October 1.

Traveling to Europe and Africa, Viettel subscribers will pay VND4,000 (US2 cents) a minute for a call from Vietnam and VND10,000 (US5 cents) a minute for a call from Vietnam to nations in Asia, Australia and the US.

Customers will pay US1 cent for roaming to Laos and Cambodia through Viettel’s subsidiaries of Unitel in Laos and Metfone in Cambodia.

Customers will pay $1 a minute for a call they make from 128 nations that Viettel offers roaming services to 267 operators to Vietnam.

“The new saving tariff policy will keep customers in touch with their families, friends and colleagues,” said Hoang Son, Viettel Telecom director.

Viettel subscribers can register roaming service through texting free message with content “CVQT” sending to 138 switchboard, roaming subscription fee of VND10,000 (US5 cents).
