Ontario and Vietnam forge strong partnership

Today in Ho Chi Minh City, Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario in Canada, announced 14 agreements between organisations in Vietnam and Ontario worth almost $25 million.

Ontario is home to Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, and Canada’s most populous city, Toronto. Ontario is the seventh-largest economy in North America.

For the first time, a delegation of 60 led by Kathleen Wynne has paid a working visit to Vietnam. The delegates cover a wide range of sectors from the agri-food sector and world-class research institutions to innovative businesses and the tech community.

At the event, Vietnamese institutions and companies inked a number of deals with counterparts from Ontario to tighten up co-operation in Vietnam. Costcovn Import Export Co., Ltd. signed an agreement with Ontario’s Ownace International Group Inc. to sell and distribute Canadian-grown specialty grains and other food products in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Truong Son Bio Ltd. entered into an agreement with Ontario’s Nurture Growth Bio Fertilizer Inc. to provide the rights to use the Nurture Growth Bio Fertilizer Trademark. Nurture Growth will also license agri-technology machinery used in the making of bio-organic fertiliser in Vietnam.

Ontario's B+H Architects signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vietnam’s leading construction company Coteccons to collaborate on Design Build projects throughout Vietnam.

The architecture company also inked an agreement with Tri Duc Group for the design of Hilton Halong Project. B+H will provide the architectural design for the project, and their hospitality group, CHIL Interior Design, will design the interiors for the hotel and condotel.

In the field of education, Seneca College signed MoUs, each valued at $240,000, to explore opportunities for exchange programmes, collaborative research projects, and training programmes for faculty and staff with Vietnamese institutions over the next three years. The Vietnamese institutions include Saigon Tourist Hospitality College, FPT University, Hanoi Vocational College of High Technology, and Vinh Long University of Technology Education.

Centennial College signed agreements, each valued at $5,250,000, to help facilitate and advance academic co-operation through academic exchanges, research collaborations, and joint programming with Vietnamese institutions, including HUTECH University of Technology, Hoa Sen College, and Khanh Hoa University.

There are also other agreements, including a collaborative academic agreement between Vietmam National University Ho Chi Minh City—International University and Ontario's York University, Ton Duc Thang University and McMaster University, as well as Huu Tho Coconut Co., Ltd., Vietnam and Ontario's Competitive Green Technologies.
