Hajime Furuta, governor of Gifu Prefecture, said this at a meeting with the HCM City People's Committee on July 15 in HCM City.
Hida beef, produced from cattle raised in Gifu Prefecture for at least 14 months, is believed to be of the highest quality in terms of marbling, lustre, colour and texture, besides smell. It is also said to cost more than VND3 million (more than US$136) per kilogram.
The beef is expected to be served at high-end Japanese restaurants, aimed at attracting the growing middle class in the country.
In the Vietnamese market, another top-quality Japanese beef brand, Kobe beef, has become popular in the past few years. In June, the beef, produced from the very first made-in-Viet Nam cows of the Kobe Beef Corporation, went on sale in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong. It will be delivered to restaurants and supermarkets in Ha Noi and HCM City.
