The impressive monthly performance helped Ford capture an overall market share of 8 per cent – its highest since December 2011.
Total industry sales rose by 50 per cent from the same month last year, which was an exceptionally low month due the impact from the ownership tax rate increase.
Leading the way for Ford in January was the popular Ford Transit, which delivered retail sales that increased 347 per cent from a year ago to 134 units, and captured an extraordinary and all-time best 78 per cent of the commercial minibus and van segment for the month.
The rugged and class-defining all-new Ford Ranger pickup delivered retail sales in January that rose 425 per cent to 126 units, representing a 36 per cent segment share – also its highest monthly share since December 2011.
Enthusiasm for the all-new Ford Focus continues to grow since its launch as January retail sales jumped 350 per cent from the previous generation Focus a year ago to 135 units. The all-new Focus significantly raises the bar in the compact segment by delivering a class-leading combination of smart technologies, innovative design and safety, and fuel efficiency.
The Ford Fiesta continued to demonstrate its appeal as one of the clear leaders of the highly competitive small car segment by delivering retail sales that increased 174 per cent to 96 units.
“We’re very pleased to start the year with such a strong monthly performance. The solid sales across our entire lineup shows that we are connecting with a wide range of Vietnamese customers and their lifestyles by offering Ford vehicles they really want and value,” said Laurent Charpentier, managing director of Ford Vietnam.
“We have a terrific team here in Vietnam, who are absolutely determined to continue driving our business forward and make even more progress on our One Ford plan,” he continued.
The popular Ford Everest SUV and Ford Escape family SUV also contributed to the strong monthly performance, with retail sales of 112 units and 76 units, respectively.
Ford also reaffirmed its commitment to further expand its dealer network in 2013 and further enhance its overall customer service experience.
“The quality of our service is equally as important as the quality of our Ford vehicles,” explained Charpentier. “As we continue to introduce new segment-leading cars and trucks, and our customer base continues to expand, we remain committed to further enhancing our service to ensure we’re providing a world-class customer experience.”
