Boeing said Thursday that Chilean airline LAN had ordered five 767 aircraft, in addition to the three orders for the long-range planes announced in February.

LAN, which is in the process of merging with Brazilian carrier TAM to create Latin America's largest airline, already owns 28 of an extended-range version -- the 767-300ER -- and 11 767-300 cargo planes.

The five 767s ordered are worth $822 million each, according to the catalogue price.

The LAN order brings Boeing's total commercial aircraft orders this year to 127, including 13 767 orders.

Shares in Boeing were up 1.6 per cent at $78.36 in afternoon New York trade.
