7-Eleven opens first store in Vietnam

The world’s largest convenience store chain, 7-Eleven launched its first store in Ho Chi Minh City today.

The store, which is located on the ground floor of Saigon Trade Centre, District 1, is the first among 20 stores that are planned for Ho Chi Minh City this year. Within the next three years, 7-Eleven aims to launch at least 100 stores in Vietnam’s largest city.

As part of its localisation efforts, 7-Eleven will offer 100 local fresh food items, including traditional Vietnamese comfort dishes, such as meatballs, baguettes, sticky rice, and sweet soup.

“We want to develop a diversified product assortment that caters to the Vietnamese taste,” said Tu Vu, CEO of Seven Systems Vietnam, the master franchisee of 7-Eleven.

Seven Systems Vietnam has yet to reveal any plans for sub-franchising or possible store openings in Hanoi.

With the new addition of Vietnam, 7-Eleven is now operating more than 60,000 outlets in 19 countries around the world. This is more than any other food service provider, the firm claims.

7-Eleven was established in 1927 in Texas, US. In 2005, it was taken over by Seven & I Holdings Co., a food and retail group from Japan.
