Liquidity on the two bourses sharply jumped to 92 million shares worth VND1.2 trillion ($58 million). Previously, trading values skimmed at just around VND500 billion ($24 million) in each session.
Among them, the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) trading value hit VND700.4 billion ($33.8 million), the highest level since September.
Global markets, including Asian ones, had sharply gained this morning on European leaders’ Thursday plan to stem euro-zone debt crisis. The benchmark VN-Index also jumped 7.32 points or 1.76 per cent to 422.07 points.
Investors rushed to bid for shares, boosting advancers to 203 stocks on the southern bourse. Just 38 stocks ended lower today.
Major stocks and driving stocks led the gainers. Hoang Quan Consulting Trading Service Real Estate Corporation (HQC) outperforming the bourse with 2.5 million shares traded, jumping 4.08 per cent. Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) followed with 1.8 million shares changing hands, surging 4.42 per cent.
A mass of driving stocks Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), Becamex Infrastructure Development (IJC), PetroVietnam Transportation Corp. (PVT), Tan Tao Investment Industry Corp. (ITA), Licogi 16 (LCG), Sacom Development and Investment Corp (SAM), Ocean Group (OCG) saw volumes surpassing one million shares each. All those stocks hit the ceiling or nearly hit the ceiling.
Blue-chips Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG), Hoa Phat Group (HPG), FPT Corp. (FPT), Song Da Urban & Industrial Zone Investment and Development (SJS), Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) also sharply rose with hundreds of thousand units changing hands each.
The Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) added 2.16 points or 3.19 per cent to close at 69.64 points, with the sharp gains of driving stocks Kim Long Securities (KLS), PetroVietnam Construction (PVX), VnDirect Securities (VND), Vietnam Construction and Import-Export (VCG).
Investors also rushed to bid for financial shares Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), Habubank (HBB) and Saigon-Hanoi Bank (SHB), despite a strained situation caused by bad debts among local banks.
Some 253 stock advanced with 141 hitting the ceiling, overwhelming 47 off and 95 unchanged.
