President Trump was escorted by both US and Vietnamese security forces to the five-star JW Marriott Hotel in Hanoi, which is located by the National Convention Centre and where the former US President Barrack Obama also stayed during his visit to Hanoi on May 22 to 25, 2016.

In the late morning of February 27, President Trump will have bilateral meetings with Vietnam’s Party General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, talking about the US-Vietnam flourishing co-operation in many sectors, with a focus laid on trade and investment co-operation.

In the evening of February 27, President Trump will likely have a dinner with Chairman Kim before the two leaders will meet again at a bilateral summit in the morning of February 28.

The US leader will also leave Vietnam after the summit ends.

In June 2018, President Trump and Chairman Kim held the first summit in Singapore. According to the Joint Statement issued after their discussions, “President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, and Chairman Kim reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.”

The two leaders also pledged to hold follow-up negotiations at ministerial level.
