State Bank rattles the market

The market continued fluctuating Thursday after the central bank’s decision to discourage the stock market.

Advancers amounted to 108 stocks on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), compared with just 82 off. Those advancers helped VN-Index raising head to 396.5 points, after falling to nearly 393 points during the session. The benchmark ended 0.9 points or 0.23 per cent lower than the previous session.

Banking share Sacombank (STB) was strongly purchased today, with as many as 6.2 million shares matched at floor price. The stock was strongly bailed-out today, but a strong demand bought the stock.

Other banking shares remained active, but ended flat or just slightly gained. Eximbank (EIB) and Vietcombank (VCB) were unchanged, while Vietinbank (CTG) and Military Bank (MBB) slightly added.

Real estate stocks meanwhile kept rallying. Ocean Group (OGC) hit the ceiling, seeing more than 1.7 million shares matched. Tan Tao Investment Industry Corp. (ITA), Binh Duong Trade and Development (TDC) and Kinhbac City Development Share Holding Corp. (KBC) jumped. But Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG) turned head to drop.

Some mineral stocks like Bac Giang Exploitable Mineral (BGM), Binh Thuan Hamico Mineral (KSA) and Nari Hamico Minerals (KSS) remained rallying.

Among 30 blue-chip stocks included in the benchmark VN30, 13 stocks ended higher. The benchmark lost 2.5 points to 443.54 points.

Foreigners still boosted their buying in some major stocks like Vietinbank (CTG) and Vietcombank (VCB).

Liquidity stood at 35 million shares worth VND658 billion ($31.8 million), with put-through volume strongly reducing.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), Kim Long Securities (KLS) soared 5.68 per cent thanks to a strong demand. Bao Viet Securities (BVS) and VNDirect Securities (VND) jumped as well.

Some other blue-chips slightly increased, helping the HNX-Index adding 0.37 points or 0.61 per cent to 60.58 points. Advancers outran decliners 117 to 95. But unchanged stocks were even higher at 181 stocks.

Banking shares Habubank (HBB) still fell and Saigon-Hanoi Bank (SHB) ended flat.

Liquidity also reduced on the bourse, with just 32.3 million shares worth VND265.3 billion ($12.8 million) changed hands today.
