Vietnam exported 3.414 million tons of rice in the first half of 2012, up 400,000 tonnes against the preset target, according to the report at a meeting held by Vietnam Food Association (VFA) in Ho Chi Minh City on July 5.

The largest markets for Vietnam’s rice include Indonesia, the Philippines and African countries. Other potential markets for Vietnam’s rice include the Republic of Korea, Japan and China.

The export turnover of Vietnamese rice to China has increased 4.6 times in quantity and 3.8 times in value compared to the same period of 2011, becoming the biggest rice importer of Vietnam.

VFA sets the target to export 2.3 million of tonnes in Q3 and 1.3-1.5 million of tonnes in Q4.
