Recognising the country’s difficulties in combating the pandemic and the agricultural industry’s challenges confronting farmers, PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo) has endeavoured to maintain the tradition of responsibility and sharing through practical social security programmes.

Earlier this year in Hai Duong, PVFCCo worked with the province on the prevention of the pandemic outbreaks by contributing $22,000. And in June, in response to requests from the government, the firm decided to transfer $220,000 to the COVID-19 Vaccine Fund while organising donations and calling on staff to support the fund.

In response to this year’s issues in many localities, PVFCCo’s employees and subsidiaries have undertaken more direct and practical supporting activities with a total value in cash of nearly $110,000. To assist the health sector and the frontline staff in the south, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City, PVFCCo has handed over equipment such as ventilators, patient monitors, refrigerators, masks, protective clothing, food, and more.

PVFCCo’s youth union mobilised employees and distributors in August to donate 35 tons of grain and 25 tons of vegetables to the Fatherland Front Committee of Thu Duc city to assist impoverished homes.

Currently, the group is actively implementing a number of supporting activities with a budget of around $87,000, bringing the total financing for pandemic prevention to roughly $435,000.

In the remainder of 2021, the firm will continue launching emergency initiatives to aid disadvantaged people as well as long-term and in-depth activities such as constructing houses, schools, hospitals, and medical stations, granting scholarships, and more besides.

Along with implementing its corporate social responsibility, PVFCCo has applied various practical solutions to ensure a stable fertiliser supply chain and effective technical consultancy to farmers, as well as actively implementing social security programmes to support the fight against COVID-19.

In terms of production, apart from the downtime for periodic general maintenance, the complexes of Phu My Fertiliser Plant and NPK Phu My both operate safely at maximum capacity, reaching around 2,450 tonnes of Phu My fertiliser and 1,000 tonnes of high-quality Phu My NPK per day on average. The production and supply process has remained seamless, enabling the rapid delivery of manufactured goods to consumption areas, notably those of high agricultural crops. Contingencies and backup plans have been prepared in case warehouses and ports are locked down or new coronavirus cases are detected.

PVFCCo deploys online channels such as hotlines, a website, and social media to provide instruction on fertiliser usage techniques along with training programmes on effective and safe plant care during the pandemic. The firm also schedules a time frame for technical consultation schemes with each farmer’s household to avoid gathering large numbers of people at the same time.

For localities after quarantine periods, PVFCCo regularly updates instructions and market news to assist local residents in recovery of production. Simultaneously, the company offers practical gifts for farmers, from baskets, raincoats, protective gear and masks to antiseptic liquid, cooking oil, and more.
