On May 24, Save the Children International, the Ho Chi Minh City Child Welfare Association (HCWA), and the Centre for Indigenous Values and Sustainable Environment Support (CHIASE) held a closing workshop for the Project "Strengthening CSO’s responses to COVID-19 pandemic and support of vulnerable youth and children in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City."

Over 20,000 children in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh were supported during the pandemic

After more than two years of implementation, the project has supported over 20,000 children in primary and secondary schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City through communication activities, and training on child protection topics.

13 school counselling rooms have been established and capacity building for teachers in charge of the counselling rooms. The project also supported 627 young people, including 207 migrant youths aged 16-25 from neighbouring provinces working in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, through career orientation programmes and soft skills development, vocational pieces of training and business startups. Among the benefited youths, there were 62 that received vocational training, and 20 business startup models developed.

Brenda Candries, programme manager, EU Delegation in Vietnam said “Protection and promotion of the rights of the child is a core objective of the European Union’s work. It is enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, which guarantees the protection of children’s rights in implementing Union law.”

Le Thi Thanh Huong, a representative of Save the Children International in Vietnam said, “The sharing of results and successful models of the project as well as the contributions of all stakeholders will help to promote good practice to create lasting and sustainable changes for children and young people.”

The project’s overall objective is to effectively contribute to the government’s COVID-19 response and support the most affected children and youth.

Save the Children is an international non-governmental organisation dedicated to ensuring the survival, protection, development, and participation rights of children worldwide. It currently operates in 22 provinces and cities nationwide and maintains partnerships with government agencies, social organisations, the business sector, and research institutes.

CHIASE is a scientific and technological organisation under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations. The centre's activities aim to support the poor and disadvantaged in society, especially ethnic minorities in poverty alleviation and natural resource conservation.
