The erstwhile chairman, Dao Van Hung, was removed from the post on February 1, and assigned to take a new task at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Hung’s specific post at the ministry was provided by the minister, but it was not known to the media.
The chairman’s dismissal came after the enormous losses EVN incurred while under his control, with loss-stricken EVN Telecom serving as the most infamous example. The telecom company was forced to accept an acquisition by the military-run Viettel Group to avoid insolvency.
Besides EVN Telecom, EVN also suffered losses from other investments in non-core businesses, said Vu Duc Dam, head of the Government Office, at the press meeting on February 4.
Prior to the new appointment of Vuong, EVN’s CEO was asked to temporarily fill in the vacancy Hung left at the board of members.
In related news, the Prime Minister has also assigned two new Deputy Ministers of Culture, Sport, and Tourism.
Vuong Duy Bien will be departing as the head of the Department of Performing Arts, and Dang Thi Bich Lien will move from her position as deputy chairwoman of the Hai Duong People’s Committee.
