>> Japan offers consultancy for nuclear power plant
An agreement to this effect was signed in Hanoi on November 21 by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the three companies under the witness of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, who is head of the Steering Committee of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project, and the first Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shovalov, who is co-chair of the Russia-Vietnam Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
Under the contract, the Russian government will fund such consultation services, which will be provided within 18 months, excluding appraisal and dossier ratification time from the Vietnamese side.
The EVN-invested Ninh Thuan power nuclear project is part of the national electric development plan during the 2011-2020 period.
Located in Phuoc Dinh commune, Thuan Nam district in the central coastal province of Ninh Thuan , the nuclear plant, the first of its kind in Vietnam, has a total capacity of 2,000 MW from two turbines.
Once operational, the plant is expected to contribute to meeting power demands for socio-economic development, enhancing national energy security, and improving the country’s atomic energy technologies.
