According to ACV’s report, the number of passengers at the Da Nang International Airport has unceasingly increased at an average growth rate of 14% per year. It is forecast that the number may reach six million next year, nine million in 2020 and approximately 20 million in 2030.
ACV General Director Le Manh Hung said that the airport’s current terminal was built in 2011, serving four million passengers per year and six to eight million after 2015, causing an overload for the terminal in several years to come.
ACV is planning to improve the terminal to serve eight million passengers per year but the capacity will merely meet the demand in three years and face further overload, Hung added.
A new terminal is necessary and urgent, helping separate local and international passengers and meeting requirements of serving over 2.3 million passengers by 2022 and four million passengers by 2030, he affirmed.
The new international terminal was designed on a 40,000 square meter floor area. The total investment was planned to include VND2,390 billion (US$107 million) for construction and equipment and VND300 billion (US$37 million) for site clearance.
ACV suggested the establishment of a joint stock company to build the terminal, in which ACV will contribute 10% of the total investment together with other investors, including TASECO, AOV and HANCORP.
The socialized investment will quicken the project, bringing in effective outcomes in socio-economic development, security and national defense, Hung said.
ACV also suggested MOT approve the project and give directions on an investment form in line with legal regulations in order to begin the project in January 2016 and complete the construction in June 2017, ensuring Viet Nam’s hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in October and November 2017.
