Mixed bag of the market

Two bourses ended mixed Tuesday on the continuing cautious sentiment of investors.

Liquidity kept skimming at a very low level. Matching value totaled only VND453.2 billion ($21.9 million) today.

Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange’s (HoSE) liquidity reached 23.9 million shares worth VND442.6 billion ($21.4 million). The figure fell further to 16.9 million shares worth VND137.6 billion ($6.6 million).

HoSE’s VN-Index slightly up 1.4 points or 0.36 per cent to 391.77 points, helped by the rise of some large-cap stocks.

Eximbank (EIB) advanced 2.07 per cent, outperforming the market with more than 2 million shares matched.

Some other stocks turned green, but their trading volume remained low. Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) climbed 0.61 per cent, Vietcombank (VCB) 0.4 per cent, while Sacombank (STB), Military Bank (MBB) and Vietinbank (CTG) was unchanged.

Large-cap stocks in producing sectors considerably gained, with Kinh Do Corp. (KDC) hitting the ceiling, Bibica Corp. (BBC) up 2.04 per cent, Vinamilk (VNM) jumping 2.73 per cent and Ninh Hoa Sugar (NHS) rising 2.96 per cent.

Speculators drove up several stocks in the real estate sector today. Licogi 16 (LCG) turned head to rise 2.94 per cent, Quoc Cuong Gia Lai (QCG) advanced 1.43 per cent while Khang Dien House Trading and Investment JSC hit the ceiling.

Pennies Cuong Thuan IDICO Investment Development Corp. (CTI), Post and Telecommunications Investment and Construction (PTC) hit the ceiling, while Ninh Van Bay Real Estate (NVT) was up 2.13 per cent

Still, decliners outran advancers 110 to 93 on the main bourse. Some 107 stocks kept unchanged.

Without support from large-cap stocks, Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) maintained its falling trend. The benchmark HNX-Index shed 0.24 points or 0.43 per cent to 56.22 points, after decliners strongly outrunning advancers 106 to 69. Some 139 stocks had no transaction.

Leading sentiment stocks largely ended flat or just slightly gained. VNDirect Securities (VND) was up 1.11 per cent, Saigon-Hanoi Bank (SHB) 1.56 per cent, Kim Long Securities (KLS) ended flat, while Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) fell 1.74 per cent further.
