Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange’s (HoSE) VN-Index added 6.28 points, or 1.33 per cent, to 479.33 points.
Liquidity soared to above VND2 trillion ($100 million) with 89.11 million shares. Negotiation transaction values reached VND976 billion ($48.8 million), surprising the market.
Among the stocks changing hands by negotiation, Eximbank (EIB) was the most active with more than 18 million shares traded at floor and 3.75 million traded at the ceiling, followed by KinhBac City (KBC) and Sai Gon Securities (SSI) at 4 million and 3.4 million shares respectively.
Real estate stocks moved up with Intresco (ITC), Licogi 16 (LCG), Itaco (ITA) and Thu Duc House (TDH) hitting the ceiling.
Finance stocks saw a strong performance today with up to 22 out of 25 codes rising, among them BVS, AVS, CTS, KLS, APS, HPC, TAS, SBS, VND, HBS and GBS.
Overall, 199 stocks advanced with 45 hitting the ceiling, 47 fell, seven hit the floor and 34 were unchanged.
On the Hanoi Exchange, the HNX-Index closed 3.38 points higher, or up 3.03 per cent, to 114.81 points. Up to 250 stock rose with 70 hit ceiling, compared with 66 gave up (12 hit floor) and 48 unchanged.
Major stocks like Asian bank (ACB), Habubank (HBB), PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) and Vinaconex (VCG) rose.
Securities company VNDirect VND topped the market in terms of trading volume with more than 3.55 million shares worth VND86.35 billion ($4.32 million) traded.
Along with rising trend of finance stocks on HoSE, banking stocks including Habubank (HBB), Sai Gon-Hanoi bank (SHB), Navibank (NVB) and Asian bank (ACB) largely moved up as well.
Total trading volumes added up to nine million units to 45 million units, worth VND903 billion ($45.15) or up VND200 billion ($10) as compared with yesterday’s session.
Foreigners were net sellers today on both of the bourses.
Foreign investors’ transactions continued lesser when as low as 3.5 million shares were traded on HoSE and 332,000 million were traded on the HNX today.
They sold 4.28 million units on the HoSE and 413,000 on the HNX, accounting for total net selling of 812,000 units worth VND2.43 billion ($121,500).
