IKEA helps develop rattan products in Thua Thien-Hue

The Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Committee on January 3 approved the second phase of a project to manufacture rattan products, which is sponsored by IKEA Company.

The project, with total capital of $56,539 and channeled through the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), will be carried out in Nam Dong and A Luoi districts. It aims to develop the rattan product processing industry firmly, help improve the environment, increase competitiveness, alleviate hunger and reduce poverty, and raise economic interests.

The project will help provide technical support for local people, establish a distribution system for rattan products and develop an area under rattan cultivation.

Besides, project beneficials will be educated about the law and policies, plans for forest management and improved methods of harvesting.

The project will be undertaken from January 2012 to July 2014.

IKEA is a privately held, international home products company that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture such as beds and desks, appliances and home accessories. The company is the world's largest furniture retailer. It was founded in Sweden in 1943.
