Howden Group, one of the world’s leading air and gas handling equipment companies, is expected to get more involved in Vietnam’s power sector.

This new drive was marked by infrastructure development in Vietnam cooperation seminars with Howden Group companies in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi last week.

Also, Howden’s Vietnam first representative office was opened in Ho Chi Minh City. This will pave the way for further cooperation opportunities for other projects with contractors, sub-vendors and companies across the country.

Howden decided to increase its presence in Vietnam in response to the Vietnamese government’s promotion of power generation capacity to support the country’s rapid economic development.

Vietnam plans to invest nearly $50 billion in the power sector in the next 10 years.
According to the government’s plan, two-thirds of the $50 billion raised will be used to build new plants and the rest will be invested in power transmission systems.

Howden is already contributing significant to the development of Vietnamese power production, having supplied equipment to a number of prestigious power projects such as Mong Duong 2 (2x600MW), Vung Ang 1 (2x600MW), Nghi Son 1 (2x600MW), Vinh Tan 1 (2x600MW) and Thai Binh 2 (2x600MW).

“In addition, Howden is procuring steel manufacturing and transportation of fan casings from companies located in Vietnam like Imeco, Romania based-Quatron Steel and Thailand invested-Falcon Logistics Solution FLS,” said Howden Group’s sales director Ken Robinson.

“We have been cooperating with these companies from 2011 and now these firms have already manufactured products for export,” said Howden Vietnam’s chief representative Hoang Quoc Trung.

Howden, founded in 1854 in Glasgow, United Kingdom, has grown to become a worldwide organisation with 4,500 employees in 20 countries with the 2012’s revenue $1.5 billion. The company operates in a wide range of industries such as power generation, oil/gas petrochemicals, iron and steel.
