Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) corrected down Tuesday after six straight rising sessions, but the demand for shares remained quite high.

The benchmark VN-Index slightly shed 0.24 points or 0.06 per cent to 393.39 points. Also, Hanoi Stock Exchange’s (HNX) HNX-Index was off 0.51 points or 0.94 per cent to 53.96 points.

Demand for shares helped the market slightly bounced back in the end of the session. Some large-cap stocks still ended up, among them PetroVietnam Finance (PVF), Vietcombank (VCB), Sacombank (STB), Phu Nhuan Jewelry (PNJ), PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services (PVD) and PetroVietnam Gas (GAS).

Massive large-cap stocks fell, but the falls were generally modest.

Military Bank (MBB) shed 0.81 per cent, Eximbank (EIB) 1.36 per cent, Saigon-Hanoi Bank (SHB) 1.85 per cent, while Vietinbank (CTG) slumped 4.6 per cent and Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) dropped 2.44 per cent. Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) lost 0.66 per cent, while Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) off 0.3 per cent.

Real estate tickers Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG), Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Investment (CII), Development Investment Construction (DIG), Licogi16 (LCG), Vincom Group (VIC) lost 1-2 per cent each.

Speculative cash flow was less active in this session, pushing down massive speculative small-cap and mid-cap tickers like Sacom Development and Investment Corp. (SAM), Sao Mai Construction Corp. (ASM), Hoang Quan Consulting-Trading-Service Real Estate Corp. (HQC), Petro Capital Infrastructure Investment (PTL), Ninh Van Bay Real Estate (NVT) on HoSE, and VNDirect Securities (VND), Bao Viet Securities (BVS), PetroVietnam-Nghe An Construction (PVA) on HNX.

Decliners turned to strongly outran advancers on both bourses. Some 129 stocks declined on HoSE compared with 78 advancing and 106 ending flat. Meanwhile, some 122 stocks were off on HNX and 70 up.

But demand for shares was still quite high, with matching value maintained at high level of totaling VND804 billion ($38.7 million) for the two bourses. With put-through value reducing, the HoSE had 52.4 million shares worth VND650.7 ($31.3 million) traded and HNX had 51.3 million shares worth VND323 billion ($15.5 million) changed hands.

A large number of stocks maintained their upwards trend. Mineral stocks Binh Thuan Mineral Industry (KSA) still hit the ceiling, Hoa Binh Mineral (KHB) and Lao Cai Mineral Exploitation & Processing (LCM) significantly gained, while other mineral stocks ended flat.
