HoSE sees the light of day

The Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) rose back Wednesday, driven by a number of blue-chips.

Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) suddenly hit the ceiling today with 120,000 shares matched. Financial stock Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) gained 1.18 per cent with more than 1 million shares matched.

Besides, some blue-chips also significantly advanced. PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services (PVD) jumped 2.75 per cent, while PetroVietnam Gas (GAS) advanced 1.49 per cent. Stocks in producing sectors like Kinh Do Corp. (KDC) and Dong Phu Rubber (DPR) climbed.

The gain of those stocks helped encouraging the market sentiment. Several speculative stocks also turned to rise. Real estate pennies Ninh Van Bay Real Estate (NVT) hit the ceiling. Pennies Seafood JSC No 4 (TS4), Dream House Investment Corp. (DRH), Petro Vietnam Transportation Corp. (PVT) strongly advanced.

Meanwhile, most other speculative stocks kept falling on big selling pressures.

Advancers and decliners ran nearly even on the southern bourse, with 102 up and 103 down. Some 104 stocks were unchanged.

At the close, the benchmark VN-Index added 1.73 points or 0.45 per cent to end at 388.35 points.

But liquidity kept at a low level, with matching value reaching only VND346 billion ($16.7 million) on the HoSE today. Total trading value reached VND387.4 billion ($18.7 million).

Tan Tao Investment Industry Corp. (ITA) outperformed the market with 4.8 million shares matched, with investors fishing bottom as the stock’s price falling to very low level. ITA closed at VND5,100 today.

In contrast, Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) fell due to a lack of support from large-cap stocks. HNX-Index shed 0.1 points or 0.17 per cent to end at 57.42 points.

Advancers and decliners also ran nearly even 95 to 105, but the strong fall of major stocks dragged the market down.

PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) dropped 5.56 per cent. The company posted poor 2012 first half result recently discouraging investors. But the stock had as high as 10.6 million shares matched today, outperforming the bourse.

Petro Vietnam Power Land (PVL) dropped 5.88 per cent and PetroVietnam Securities Inc. (PSI) slipping 5.13 per cent. Real-estate and construction stocks continued being strongly sold.

There were only 28.8 million shares worth VND186.7 billion ($9 million) changed hands on HNX today.
