Fresh capital to make a big splash at Ban Gioc

Tourism investors are set to pour funds into the Ban Gioc waterfall bordering China. Decision 134/2007/QD-TTg will result in a 1,000 hectare tourism zone being created in Cao Bang province’s Trung Khanh district.

“The prime minister’s decision is warmly applauded by investors, as many investors have been waiting for a master plan to prepare their projects,” said Nhan Thi Minh Thi, the province’s Department of Trade-Tourism vice director.
She said a detailed plan would be drawn up this year to lure domestic and international investors.
“This tourist area has been exploited by both Vietnam and China, therefore it is difficult for us to call for investment projects in this area. We will focus on calling for domestic and foreign investment to make the area to a key tourist destination,” she added. She said only Cao Bang Tourist Company had developed a tourism project in Nguon Ngao cavern, while other investors must wait until the master plan is available.
According to the master plan, the development of basic infrastructure will be a priority to 2010, while full development will be phased in two five-year periods from 2011 to 2015 and 2016 to 2020.
From now to 2015, Ban Gioc needs VND1,000 billion for developing basic infrastructure and auxiliary facilities such as roads, electricity and water systems, an administration centre and hotels.
During 2015-2020, the province needs an additional VND900 billion for developing the tourist area.
“The province expects to have 800 hotel rooms of one-to-three-star standard in Ban Gioc by 2015 and the number will double by 2020,” Thi said.
The province is expected to receive 350,000 visitors by 2015 from around 50,000-60,000 now.
Cao Bang, 272 kilometres from Hanoi, is famous for cultural-historical monuments such as Pac Bo cave, Lenin stream and Khuoi Nam river.
