Price of coffee in the Central Highland Provinces climbed to VND43.7 million per tonne but trading was not as vibrant because coffee stocks were low and some farmers continued to hold their produce for better prices.

During 2011-2012, coffee production in Vietnam reached more than 1.3 million tonnes, of which around 900,000 tonnes was exported. The rest was kept by farmers or coffee companies.

A General Statistics Office report shows that coffee exports in May were around 150,000 tonnes, a decrease of 11 per cent compared to last month, but up 53 per cent compared to the same period last year. Coffee export turnover reached $313 million in May, 11.3 per cent lower than in April.
